On Wednesday 25th April 2018 fourteen students visited local business Zurich International, Zurich House, Douglas to enjoy a behind-the-scenes guided tour and an interactive masterclass on ‘Interview success’. The event was organised by Career Ready, a UK wide charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people.
The presentation delivered by Ruth Adamson (Training Manager) and Jade Garrett HR and Internal Communications administrator. The contents of the masterclass included sample interview questions, a mock interview and they talked to the students about what to do in an interview and what not to do.
Joe Everett from UCM said ‘it was great to get advice from future UCM employers about what they are looking for in prospective employees. Ruth & Jade made the session fun but also gave valuable insight about what future employers will ask in interviews’
Jack Smith from Ramsey Grammar School ‘I really enjoyed getting out of the classroom and having a look around an international company. My interview skills are not the best at the moment – but this has given more confidence! – Thank you Zurich’
Ruth Adamson explained that ‘Zurich is always willing to help students from the local community and is it lovely to meet such a great bunch of students’.
Career Ready offers an 18 month programme including; masterclasses, a professional mentor, workplace visits and a summer internship that helps students prepare for the world of work. Ramsey Grammar, QE2, St Ninian’s High School & UCM have been working with Career Ready for five years to help students gain the skills, attitudes and experience they need to succeed in their future careers.
Jo Davies, IOM Career Ready Coordinator, said: “It is always fantastic for the students to experience the world of work and to get them out of the classroom. We hope that the workplace visit will inspire the students and motivate them to aim high in their future careers. The students will have an interview shortly for their summer internship and this masterclass will be a great help. Thank you Zurich!”
