On Wednesday 8th July, A Level Biology students attended a local field trip to sample seaweed on the Port Jack end of Douglas Beach. This was part of their Practical Endorsement for their Biology A Level course. Students and staff enjoyed the very warm weather for the walk down to the site. The students carried out their survey the beach, thoroughly collecting lots of data. Students worked in groups to sample seaweed along a belt line transect along the beach and were able to identify and quantify the abundance of different seaweed species. Just as the weather started to get to the hottest part of the day, we walked along the prom to head to Frank Matcham’s for lunch. After lunch, students enjoyed an ice cream treat before heading back to school for a debrief. In the following lessons, students analysed and discussed their results and presented these in their lab books.
We would like to thank all our A-Level Biology students for their enthusiasm and Miss Richardson and Miss Salway for organising the trip.
