Another day, another early alarm! Breakfast was served at 7:30am in The Hub and, somewhat surprisingly, everyone made it down on time, ready to refuel for what would be our longest journey of the week. Packed lunches collected, we climbed aboard the coaches with Darren and Steve once again at the wheel, before setting off for Sheffield.
After a quick comfort break en route, we arrived almost on schedule at Sheffield Hallam University, where Heidi, Ally, Kate, James and their fantastic team of student ambassadors were there to welcome us. Students split into their chosen subject areas – STEM, Sport & Health, or Business – giving them the opportunity to hear from academic staff about courses, careers and university life before touring the relevant facilities. It was another excellent visit, allowing everyone to picture what studying in their chosen field could look like. A huge thank you to everyone at Sheffield Hallam – you were absolutely brilliant!
Our second visit took us across the city to the University of Sheffield, where Joel and the team were waiting to greet us. Joel delivered a comprehensive presentation covering everything from choosing the right course and university to the application process, personal statements, work experience and the many benefits of studying in Sheffield. It was packed with practical advice and gave our students plenty to think about as they begin planning their futures. A tour of the campus rounded off another superb visit, and both Sheffield universities showcased exactly why the city is such a popular destination for higher education. Well done, Sheffield – you certainly impressed us!
Before making the journey back to Edge Hill, we squeezed in a well-earned stop at Meadowhall for a spot of retail therapy, a chance to grab some food and, for many, pick up a few last-minute bargains. The coach journey home was made even more memorable thanks to an impromptu karaoke session that had everyone laughing (and questioning a few musical talents!).
Back on campus, some of the group rounded off the evening with a relaxed game of frisbee as the daylight began to fade. It was the perfect way to unwind after another packed day. Although we're all looking forward to getting home tomorrow, it's fair to say this has been a hugely successful, enjoyable and eye-opening week. Just one more early start to go… here comes Friday!
