The Specialist Provision Centre and Progress Zone at St. Ninian’s High School (SNHS) have been working in partnership throughout the year to develop a dedicated allotment and outdoor learning space for students as part of their educational provision.
The project aims to enhance opportunities for outdoor learning and provide students with practical experiences in growing food from plot to plate. The educational and wellbeing benefits of gardening, food cultivation, and nature-based learning are well established, and the school is committed to expanding these opportunities for a number of its students.
The development of the allotment has been made possible through the generosity and support of several local organisations, to whom the school extends its sincere thanks.

DLP Limited, for their invaluable assistance in constructing raised beds and a storage shed for the outdoor learning area.
Douglas Borough Council, for providing soil, compost, and wood chippings, which have been essential in establishing the growing space.
Manx Wildlife Trust’s Dragonflies Den Project, for providing funding and gardening equipment to help develop the green space while encouraging biodiversity, wildlife awareness, and environmental education within the school grounds.
Tesco’s Fruit & Veg for Schools Grants Programme, for selecting the project to take part in a customer voting initiative in Tesco stores. Voting will take place from Monday 3 August 2026 until the end of November 2026, and the school would greatly appreciate the support of the local community.
Through collaboration with local businesses and community organisations, this project is helping to create a valuable resource that will support students’ learning, wellbeing, and connection with the natural environment for years to come.
