The senior rugby team travelled to Manchester last weekend to play Wilmslow High School. A squad of 20 boys from Y11, 12 and 13 accompanied by three staff left the Island on Friday morning. We visited an old friend and ex-St. Ninian’s PE teacher, Matt Harvey at his school Tytherington High School. The lads were put through their paces in a training session in the snow! The next morning we played Wilmslow High in a competitive game, a school which boasts a long rugby tradition with players going on to play at a high level, including the Premier League’s Sale Sharks in recent years. Wilmslow won the game comfortably but the St. Ninian’s boys played really well, one of their best performances of the season. Some stand out performances by captain Tom “Dumbbells” McCormick, Adam McClean, Maxx Bradshaw, Kyle Martin and Josh Blackburn, but it was Y11 Craig Martin who was given the Man of the Match award for some brilliant forward play, and in particular some fantastic tackles. We then took in the Sale Sharks Challenge Cup match against French side Perpignan. The Sharks ran out 39-10 winners in a very exciting game. The Y11 boys were pleased to see their old Head of Year Mr Harvey enjoying the game, as well as a well deserved curry in West Didsbury where the food was incredibly fresh!

Well done to all the boys who came on tour as well as the staff; it was a really fun trip and all involved were great ambassadors for the school.

Mr Kelly
