Year 12 Criminology students had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Isle of Man Prison in Jurby last week. This visit was to support their learning for next year where students will be studying the prison service in detail.
The visit started with a question and answer session, the students asked many interesting questions and got the chance to learn fascinating details about the running of a prison and the day to day experience of a prisoner. The group then went on a tour of the prison itself and got the opportunity to visit ‘F wing’ and the ‘Women’s wing’ and experience what it would be like to be locked in a cell. They also visited the reception area where prisoners are first met and searched and learnt about the equipment that helps guards to find any contraband!
A massive thank you to all who were able to make this trip happen, most notably those at the prison who gave up their time so willingly and were engaging throughout. We look forward to working with them again!
