Yesterday, students from the Lower School SPC visited ‘Gaia’ a truly awe-inspiring experience to our ‘Travel and Transport’ topic!

‘Gaia’ is a giant illuminated hanging Earth measuring six metres in diameter and is 2.1 million times smaller than the real Earth. It will be on public display at St Thomas' Church in Douglas from 20 April to 12 May 2024.

Gaia has been temporarily installed in the nave at St Thomas’ Church in Douglas, with a bespoke surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning Composer Dan Jones playing alongside the sculpture.

The visit has been supported by a partnership of organisations including Net Zero Isle of Man, the Isle of Man Arts Council and headline sponsors Ørsted .

Gaia artist, Luke Jerram said:

'I hope visitors to Gaia get to see the Earth as if from space; an incredibly beautiful and precious place. An ecosystem we urgently need to look after – our only home.’

The Students and Staff certainly enjoyed the visit.
