Last week the Year 10 boys kicked off their football season against a strong Ballakermeen side. It was pleasing to see so many students from St Ninian's attend the game and support the team at the Bowl.

The Saints started strong with two early goals by Blake in the opening 15 minutes. Adapting to a new formation seemed seamless with lots of high energy pressing, and possession in the final third. However, Ballakermeen managed to halve the deficit on the counterattack, exposing space in behind the defence to score a well-worked goal. A midfield trio of Blake, Leece, and Cowell started to dictate the pace of the game whilst wingbacks Cowin and Wilson stretched the Ballakermeen backline. Soon the two-goal lead was restored by Leece. BHS had failed to clear a dangerous set piece which led to the ball falling to Leece 12 yards out. He made no mistake striking the ball on the half-volley into the bottom left corner, 3-1. Bradshaw in goal made a fantastic 1 on 1 save to deny BHS just before half-time, keeping the lead intact. Half-time score, 3-1 Saints. 15 minutes into the second half and Ballakermeen had turned the game around, scoring back-to-back quickfire goals. The boys showed great spirit and composure to wrestle back momentum with notable defensive performances from Shalem, Carr and Cowin. 10 minutes from time and the Captain Blake completed his hat-trick with a superb strike from 25 yards into the top corner. A goal worthy of winning any match. Late pressure from Ballakermeen followed but the boys held their shape well, stopping any clear chances for the home side, winning 4-3.

Well done to all the boys involved - they were excellent both on and off the pitch! We're looking forward to the rest of the season!
