Our third annual Universities Day Visit saw 98 students venture across to Edge Hill University and the University of Liverpool; it was a nice early 6:30am meet at the Sea Terminal (with a lot of weary eyes about the place).

After a ‘rocky’ ride across the Irish Sea, we met the coaches to take us to Edge Hill University. Arriving slightly later than planned, students had a chance to tour the campus and witness university life for themselves. There were a lot of students on site and the place had quite a buzz about it. Our students had a talk on transferable skills from A Level to Higher Education, study skills at A Level, preparation for Higher Education and how to go about developing a good attitude to learning by reading around subjects on a regular basis. All students found it to be informative and relevant.

After having lunch at Edge Hill University, we made our way to the University of Liverpool. Our students were met by the student ambassadors who took them on a tour of the university before a question and answer session about Liverpool, Higher Education and preparing for A level study.

A retail therapy session ended the day whereby shares in a certain 'value for money' department store rose significantly!

A long and tiring day but well worth the visit. Our students, encouraged by a day of informative and focussed talks, left invigorated and ready for the year ahead – some with an end goal and others with a lot still to decide.

Our students were a credit to the school and posed many thought-provoking questions to the school liaison teams involved. Many thanks to both universities for hosting, and more importantly, a massive thank you to the tutors and team who assisted on the day.

The hard work starts now…
