This week, to coincide with Comic Relief and the recent controversy in the press concerning white celebrities being criticised for their role in charity work overseas, our motion was: "This house holds the world does not need any more white saviours”.

There were interesting speeches for both sides of the argument and the following discussions focussed on the gains of using high profiles celebrities versus the continuation of seeing people in many African countries as victims without letting them speak for themselves or address the issues that have lead to the poverty they face.

The motion was lost, despite the best efforts of our speakers.

Well done and thank you to all those who spoke and attended. We look forward to seeing you next time

Ms Crisford
