Students from King William's College joined the Year 12 chemistry students at St. Ninian's in a ‘Spectroscopy in a suitcase’ workshop. Under the direction of the team from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the students made paracetamol and analysed their samples using infrared spectroscopy and thin layer chromatography. They also learned about the background of analgesic medicines and the infrared connection between F1 racing, the National Gallery and Festivals around the country. It was also an opportunity to chat to chemistry graduates and find out a little more about higher education opportunities. We are most grateful to the RSC for once again providing our students with the experience of using such specialist equipment .
