We were very lucky to have Jacqui Dearden, from St. Peter’s College, Oxford in school on Wednesday to run a series of workshops for Year 8/9 and Year 10/11 students on aiming higher. The Year 8/9s worked on problem solving and ‘deep thinking’ tasks and the Year10/11 were given the chance to answer some of the questions from the aptitude tests that Oxford set for all applicants. They were very quick to solve these, especially the Maths problem!

After school, Jacqui ran a session for Year 12 students, providing useful insights into how to prepare early for applications to some of the more competitive universities. A final session was attended by parents, reinforcing the importance of preparation prior to applying for courses and the wide range of opportunities available at universities.

Jacqui will be back in June for the HE fair. Some students will meet her again in Oxford in the summer, if they are a successful in gaining a place at the residential weekend at St. Peter's.
