Over 100 Year 8 students took part in the Manx Telecom Enterprise Project. Working in groups of 5 or 6, each group was given £30 each to spend on materials to create a product, which they then sold and try to make a profit. Twenty judges from local businesses and industries joined us to take part in judging the competition, including representatives from Manx Telecom, Barclays Bank, Search and Select, The Shred House, Manx Motorcycle Club, Zurich Bank, Davidson’s Ice Cream and Manx Utilities, as well as local artist Nicola Dixon, English Tutor Justine Shepherd and Accountant Francis Thoday.

Many thanks to our judges for giving up their time to come into school and support our students.

They commented on how well prepared, eloquent and confident our students were.

Justine Shepherd said “ Having had the privilege of speaking to the students I have been genuinely amazed and delighted at the huge amount of work they all put into their projects. Some of them faced more set backs than others but they all impressed me with their resilience and refusal to become bogged down in “The Pit”. Every team I spoke with showed enthusiasm, even when their projects had not gone according to plan! They all accepted the difficulties put their way, did not play the blame game and all had a smile on their faces during the interviews. I want to pass on my congratulations to them all “Keep up this positive attitude and you will go far!"

The four winning teams were:

Tye Dye (Caitlin, Cristen, Kenny, Nicola)

Instant Memories (Abigail, Eryk, Jack)

4P’s (Callum, Dapo, Ellie, Farrah)

Wooden Baubles (Beren, Chloe, Jemma, Matthew)

Each group received £30 each from Manx Telecom. The runners up (4 teams) each received a voucher for ice cream from Davison’s Ice Cream.

Many thanks to our sponsors Manx Telecom and Davison’s Ice cream.
