Year 7 Tutor Groups have been meeting my challenge to lead an assembly.

7D presented on ‘healthy lifestyle’ – the key points encouraging 7 fruit and veg a day, regular exercise and looking after our mental health. This topic was chosen by the students following a shared experience of lockdowns – they felt a focus on being healthy helped keep them positive during a difficult time. They had volunteers on stage, students and teachers, to demonstrate exercises and there was also an entertaining race between a banana and a doughnut – won by the banana of course.

7C wanted to talk about the importance of ‘protecting the environment’ and the different ways that humans are affecting the planet. This Saturday is World Environment Day so it’s a good time to remember how we can look after the environment, particularly on the IOM. Finally, the students reminded us of the simple steps we can take for our local area, including within our community and Beach Buddies, and how we can reduce electricity use to help the planet.

We are very proud of the students for their courage to present to over 600 students across KS3. Many have overcome a fear and I know their satisfaction and confidence levels have been given a well-deserved boost. Special thanks to our tutors Miss Jackson, Miss Powell and Miss Cregeen.
