The Senior Boys Rugby team picked up their first win of the season against QEII on Monday.
After a slightly delayed start due to a transport hiccup, the Saints started like they were still on the coach conceding a try which was also converted, 7-0 to QEII. Following a stern word or two from Mr Kelly, the boys responded well with captain Stephan De Beer leading the charge supported by Cole Donnelly and Sam Barnett who were a threat going forward. Cameron Strickett-Morling put a penalty over the posts to reduce the deficit as half time approached to 7-3.
The second half started much better with some hard running from De Beer, Barnett and Ben Wilkinson. The Saints got their breakthrough following one of many excellently executed line outs from Morgan Russell-Dunne collected by fellow Y11 Dylan Zachorecki. It was De Beer who ended up with the ball and carried over for a try. 7-8 to SNHS. With the sun setting fast in the Sunset City, it looked to be all over when QEII scored a penalty kick to go 10-8 up with only minutes remaining, but the red 'n' black army wouldn't be stopped as more strong running from James Leece and Josh Modin got the boys inches from the QEII line. It was that man De Beer again who stole a lineout to dive over for the winning try!
Final score: QEII 10-13 SNHS
Tries: De Beer (2)
Pen: Strickett-Morling
MotM: Sam Barnett - unbelievable work ethic, countless carries and important tackles.
Next game is Thursday v KWC @ SNHS Lower School Pitch (the Fortress), 4pm KO.
