Congratulations to our fabulous public speaking team, who last night won the 2024 Rotary Senior Public Speaking Competition.
The team this year was made up of Year 9 students Grace Cilliers as Chair and Catrina McMurtrey, who wrote and delivered a speech entitled ‘The Digital World: To Byte or Not to Bye?’
After an introduction by Grace that the judges commended for clarity, humour and a thoughtful consideration of Catrina’s virtues as a speaker, Catrina then spoke for seven minutes on the advantages and disadvantages of the digital world, offering a well-considered and balanced view on the topic and ending with a conclusion that the judges particularly commented on. The judging panel also complimented Catrina’s speaking style as clear and well-paced and they were impressed that she had learnt the speech. Overall they summed up by saying that team were fabulous all round, demonstrating excellent teamwork skills.
The girls have won a cup and money for the school, and tomorrow will attend the Rotary Club lunch to re-deliver their speech for the whole Rotary Club to listen to. We are extremely proud of their achievement and the professional and eloquent way with which they handled themselves.
Well done Catrina and Grace!
