Year 7 boys have had a fantastic first half term of Rugby to start their sporting journey at St. Ninian's, and they have shown a real enthusiasm for what is a new sport to most of the boys. We have regularly had over 50 boys at training, with everybody enjoying themselves and learning a lot every week.
The first fixtures against Castle Rushen and Ramsey were both away, and very much learning experiences for the A team. Strong results in the B and C teams showed how many boys at St. Ninian’s have been developing their skills in training, and this was demonstrated with their actions on the pitch.
Two home game thrillers followed for the A and B teams, with a narrow last gasp victory against KWC, then an epic 5-5 draw against Ballakermeen. This time the tables turned, and it was St. Ninian’s’ turn to concede a last-minute try! Despite the disappointment at the time, it was a brilliant game and all boys from both teams should be proud of their efforts. The commitment and development of the players was evident in both games, and this group of boys has real potential if they keep working hard.
Rugby continues this week with an away game against QEII on 6th November, and then an all-island Year 7 Rugby Tournament on 13th November (also at QEII High School). We have house matches coming up and will continue with after school practice throughout the term. It has been brilliant to see so many boys loving it and learning lots along the way!!
