The Year 8s have had a fantastic season in Football, ending in triumph with victory in the Final against Castle Rushen High School!
Going into the Final with a 100% undefeated record, expectations were high! However, the league match against CRHS was very tight, and a good contest was expected - it proved to be, with both sides playing nice football with chances at both ends. It was 0-0 at half time!
In the second half, the game went back and forth, but with 10 minutes to go Guy Kinel broke the deadlock with a great strike from the left, into the far corner. The thought was that 1 goal would win it, but SNHS really went at the opposition and scored a further 3, from Kinel again, Aaron Costello and skipper Gabe Campbell. A fine team performance, which has been a characteristic of the Year 8 boys all season.
It was a shame that Max Klechinskis missed the Final having played all season, but Daniel Cowell stepped in as an able deputy. Defensively the back line of Billy Cullington, Nathan Neveril and Leon Waddington was extremely solid and stopped attacks regularly, with goalkeeper Bobby Davenport making saves as required. James Creer was tireless in midfield and was unlucky not to score.
Well done everyone! We have had 40 boys at practice every week, a great turnout and the B team squad were also unbeaten this season.
