Last week we had another debate against Ballakermeen High School. We successfully won both debates and I am proud to say St. Ninian's improved on their previous performances. It was a lovely evening, and we would like to thank both the KS3 Debate Club from Ballakermeen, and its staff sponsor Mr. Mitchell, for coming to compete, and Headteacher Mr. Graeme Corrin for attending too.

St. Ninian's proposed the debate, 'This house believes that the electric car industry is a waste of time, money and resources.' The team comprising of Scott Reid, Angel Nzama and Yosif Tsvetkov managed to successfully defend with a series of eloquent arguments which the Ballakermeen adjudicator described as 'some of the best he has seen'. Not only a win for St. Ninian's, but also a 'Speaker of the Debate' title for Yosif Tsvetkov, with a special note of his skilled rebuttal and clear preparation.

Ballakermeen proposed the debate, 'This house believes that travel to and from the Isle of Man needs to be made more affordable', which despite there personal feelings on the subject, the team of Emily Slee, Dilara Nergiz and Sophie Roberts managed to oppose this statement and successfully bring in the double victory. Speaker for the Debate for this match went to Bella from Ballakermeen, but an excellent debut from Dilara and some last minute stepping up from Sophie and Emily meant that the whole team worked together to come away with a win.

A big thank you as well to Katherine Harris and Aleasha McIver for Chairing and Timing the debate, and also taking a step back to allow others the opportunity to competitively debate for the first time.
Looking forward to the next one,
Mr. Casella
