We were thrilled to welcome Allison Fox from the Manx Museum to our recent assembly to present a very special award to one of our Year 8 students, Jack Kelly.

Jack made an incredible discovery while metal detecting - an ancient Bronze Age axehead, believed to be around 4,000 years old! His amazing find has now taken pride of place in the Manx Museum and has even been put forward for a prestigious nationwide competition celebrating remarkable discoveries.

Allison Fox, Curator of Archaeology for Manx National Heritage - and a former St Ninian’s High School pupil - presented the award and said:

"It was a pleasure to present Jack with his award for finding this really special 4,000-year-old Bronze Age axehead. Artefacts like this are so important in helping us understand how our ancestors on the Isle of Man lived so long ago. We are especially grateful that Jack and the landowner donated the axehead to the Manx National Collections, where it will be preserved forever. The axehead is now on display at the Manx Museum, so please come along and see Jack’s wonderful find!"
