We had a fantastic afternoon at Lower School last Friday for St. Ninian’s Sports Day 2025!! The students were representing their house of Brennan, Knox, Kermode, and Isdale with lots of pupils competing and many more cheering on and supporting their peers.
Field events had been taking place all week and we saw some fantastic throws and jumps from lots of competitors. Points were accumulated and by the time it was Friday afternoon it was very close, with all houses doing well and in contention to be crowned Sport Day champions.
The 100m, 200m and 800m were ran on the track, mixed in with some traditional sports day races of the sack race and the three-legged race. There were lots of athleticism on display, as well as lots of laughs, and some particularly interesting 3-legged race techniques!!
Star performances were on display across all year groups, and it was a pleasure to see students working hard to perform at their very best for their houses. Ronin Murray won the year 9 boys Triple Jump and Javelin and 100m, with some superb performances, and Isabel Gumbley won the 300m and the 1500m gaining maximum points for Knox house.
In Year 8 Rhys Jones had won the high jump earlier in the week for Kermode, and he powered to the line first in the 200m race on Friday. Esther Babatunde and Grace Carr had a fantastic battle in the 100m, and both showed their outstanding ability over the course of the week with several wins each for their houses.
Thomas Goldsmith Twist won the 200m, High Jump and Long Jump in the year 7 boys’ events and Carter Whitehead had two huge performances in the 1500m and 800m, posting the fastest times across all year groups in these events. Very impressive for a year 7 athlete!!
Tallulah Wilson was equally with feats of strength, speed, and power, taking wins in the 800m, Long jump and the Discus!!
The Tug of War had fantastic battles with pupils from all age groups coming together as one team to represent their house. The feats of strength were inspiring to see, but Knox showed their superiority in the Boys events and Brennan girls looked unstoppable in taking the top points for their team. The final result was in the balance between Isdale and Kermode going into the relays, and double points meant these were even more important. Each house had their successes over the two races, but it was Isdale that were consistently scoring well, winning three of the six races and being crowned St. Ninian’s Sports Day champions 2025!! Well done Isdale!!
The event finished with a bit of fun in the teacher and student relay, matching up teachers, 6th formers and some lower school athletes to make up 8 relays teams. Supporters lined the track and cheered loudly to see the team of Ryan Nelson, Carla Conradie, Rose Gumbley and Mr Winrow cross the line first. There was a steward’s enquiry after confusion at the change overs, but the result stands!
It really was a brilliant afternoon, showing what a fantastic community spirit we have at St. Ninian’s High School. Everybody involved had a great time, and all competitors should all be proud of themselves for representing their house. Well done to all, we are already looking forward to next year!!
