Our Year 10 boys played their first cricket fixture of the season against KWC. The boys played a hard-ball Hundred format and looked to show off their cricketing skills against tough opposition. Captain Blake won the toss and chose to bowl first, confident of chasing down any total KWC made. However, KWC batted well, amassing lots of runs. The bowling attack of Blake, Bradshaw, Cassidy, Leece, Cooper and Bellew stuck to their task in hot conditions. Bradshaw took the first wicket of the season by bowling the batsmen from a left arm around the wicket delivery. Cooper further managed to pick up two wickets in the final over to restrict KWC’s score.
The Saints responded by sending opening pair Shalem and Bellew out to bat. Although Shalem’s innings wouldn’t last long, as a mix up in communication led to him being run out for a platinum duck. Bradshaw hit the first boundary of the innings with an innovative cut shot which raced away for 4. Star batsman Leece hit the ball so hard it snapped his bat in half, which caused a slight delay to proceedings! Carr tried to battle back momentum, but the required run-rate started to increase dramatically.
Overall, the boys can be proud of their efforts.
