On Tuesday 24th June, A Level Biology students attended a local field trip to sample seaweed on the Port Jack end of Douglas Beach. This was part of their Practical Endorsement for their Biology A Level course. Students and staff enjoyed the warm weather for the walk down and enjoyed a nice early lunch at Frank Matchams. The walk to the site continued and the students carried out their survey the beach thoroughly collecting lots of data. Students worked in groups to sample seaweed along a belt line transect on Douglas beach and were able to identify and quantify the abundance of different seaweed species. Prior to the data collection, students enjoyed an ice cream treat. In the following lessons, students analysed and discussed their results and presented this in their lab books.

We would like to thank all our A-Level Biology students for their enthusiasm and Miss Richardson and Miss Salway for organising the trip.
