28 Year 11 Geography students visited Malham in the Yorkshire Dales from Thursday to Sunday. From the start, the trip had a real positive vibe with dolphins making an appearance on the way into Heysham! After a quick stop off for supplies in Asda, our two minibuses headed over to Ingleton and then Clapham. Here we visited Inglebrough Show Cave where it was great to be lead by John, who is an expert cave explorer in the area. He passed on his enthusiasm for all things underground! That evening everyone got used to our accommodation and planning for the day ahead.
Friday was a busy day with a walk around the local area taking in the sights of Janets Foss, Gordale Scar and Malham Cove. After a village study around Malham, the students started preparing for “Malham’s got Talent”. This was an upgrade on the “Geog Factor” where students were singing, acting, rapping and even baking limestone features to impress the judges. Probably one of the best shows that the Geography staff have seen for a long time!
Saturday included a look at Malham Tarn and a visit to an upland farm, shown around by Margaret who has been educating our students on farming for the last 20 years. It was then a trip down the M6 to Liverpool where we looked at urban zones before some shopping and returning to the island.
A fantastic trip which couldn’t go ahead without the support of the teachers and office staff at SNHS!
