The Island Schools' Hockey Final had everything: intensity, skill, and drama from start to finish. The mighty Saints of St Ninian’s High School arrived after a fantastic season, ready to take on Castle Rushen High School in what turned out to be one of the most exciting matches of the year.
From the first whistle, it was end-to-end hockey. Both teams created wave after wave of chances, keeping the crowd gripped. Tallulah burst into action early, playing with high energy and flair, constantly outsmarting her opponents. Captain Maixa was composed throughout, leading by example and keeping the team calm under pressure. Amelia carried out her secret role superbly, always alert, positioning herself perfectly to link play and protect the team. In goal, Rose was outstanding, making a series of brilliant saves that kept the Saints in the game. Amber showed great adaptability, rotating between central attack and the wing with confidence, while Ruby used her strength and pace to drive the ball into attacking areas. Lily made an instant impact when she came on, throwing herself into tackles and easing the pressure when it mattered most.
Despite their determination and teamwork, the Saints were narrowly beaten 1-0 after Castle Rushen managed to convert a rare chance. At full time, Hailey was deservedly named Player of the Match by the umpires for her outstanding all-round display. It may not have been the result they hoped for, but the Saints can hold their heads high after an incredible season. With full-pitch hockey ahead next year, this talented group is ready for even greater things. Well done girls!
