Last week we were delighted to welcome Rachel Beattie to speak to students about the upcoming Mansat Competition.
In cooperation with the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, ManSat sponsors scholarships for up to three Isle of Man Year 12 students to attend the United Space School in Houston, Texas.
The 2026 session will be held 19 July - 3 August.
The scholarships are awarded to the winners of an Island-wide essay competition. Essay questions for this year's competition have been advised to all Isle of Man high schools.
The essay questions for the 2025/2026 competition are as follows:
1. Why are you interested in space?
2. How do you think the Isle of Man can contribute to the future of space exploration?
3. Identify three major challenges involved in sending a crewed mission to Mars.
How do you think current and emerging technologies could be used to overcome these challenges?
The answers to each question should be between 500 and 1000 words in length.
All three questions must be answered.
We hope many of our students will enter the competition.
