There were four cracking games for the Year 7s on Wednesday against Ramsey Grammar School, with plenty of drama and quality on show.
The 4th team were on the wrong side of a tight contest, narrowly losing 4–3 after a hugely competitive game. The 3rd team also experienced a rollercoaster, letting a strong lead slip to finish 4–4, but showed real composure in the penalty shootout. Some excellent spot kicks saw them come out on top, deservedly so.
The B team played with real composure throughout, moving the ball well and creating a number of chances. Taylor C was heavily involved, setting up the opener which was finished first time by Theo H. Taylor then capped off his performance with a wonderful strike into the top corner to make it 2–0. Further clinical finishing from Theo H, combined with some outstanding defensive work from Stan N, secured an excellent win for the Saints.
The A team match was a very even contest between two strong sides. The Reds started brightly, moving the ball wide and creating plenty of opportunities through Jacob C and Adrien S. Toby S made the breakthrough, but Ramsey responded well and the teams went in level at 1–1 at half time. The second half remained tight and, although the Saints were on top, Ramsey always looked a threat. Composed defending from Ben B and Sam D proved crucial, before some excellent vision and a well-worked goal between Adrien S and Jacob C made it 2–1. A high work rate and resolute defending across the whole team then secured the result, with the Saints heading back to Douglas in great spirits.
A visit to Peel and QEII follows next week, and we’re already looking forward to another exciting set of fixtures.
