On Friday 16th January, Year 13 Geography students took part in a visit to the Lord Street substation in Douglas. This opportunity was part of Manx Utilities celebrations marking 25 years of the Isle of Man’s Subsea Electricity Interconnector.

The Interconnector is a key part of the Island’s electricity network. It runs beneath the Irish Sea and connects the Isle of Man to the wider UK grid. This connection helps keep our electricity supply secure, supports renewable energy ambitions and makes sure the Island has access to reliable and affordable power all year round. The visit was a brilliant opportunity for students to see how electricity reaches homes and businesses and supported the Year 13 unit of study on: “Environmental management and sustainable energy”.

Many thanks to all involved for this opportunity for our students.
