Since 2016, the Languages Department have been running the Languary competition every January which consists of all school students going the extra mile to improve their language skills. This year, some students have made up their own rap, their own Kahoot quiz, lots of posters, they have taken screenshots of their use of social networks in French/Spanish, they have taught some of their tutors some phrases in a foreign language etc.
The results are now in and, drum roll, in Year 10 Tia Conway and Sarah O’Callaghan came top of their year with 17 points each. Mrs Géal-Wilkes’s Yr 10 Spanish group came first with a total of 125 points for the whole class. Mrs Taylor’s Year 9 French was the winning Year 9 group with 123 points with Sophie Priestnal being the top Yr 9 student with 59 points. Mrs Taylor’s Year 8 Spanish group came first in Year 8 with 367 points, out of which the overall Languary school winner Siddharth Muthu Pandian achieved an impressive 151 points. Tutor group 7H, taught by Mrs Jiménez Asencio Sheard and Ms Laporte, managed to beat the top Yr 8 class with 373 points. Natalie Corkill in 7A was the overall Yr 7 winner with 66 points. In second and third position after Siddharth were, respectively, Jessica Claricoats in 7A with 60 points and Sinéad Doherty in 7H with 59 points. iTunes vouchers have been awarded to top individuals and prizes to whole winning classes.
Well done to all that took part.
Competition time restarts soon with the Nutty Tilez competition which takes place between 7th and 9th March. In order to take part, students need to log on to their www.thisislanguage.com account, go on the Nutty Tilez tab and type in vocabulary items fast enough to go up as many levels as possible. This is an international competition where over 500 schools are involved. Let’s see if we can have an Isle of Man winner!
