On Tuesday 9th July A Level Biology students attended a local field trip to sample seaweed on the Port Jack end of Douglas Beach. This was part of their Practical Endorsement of their Biology A Level course. Students and staff braved the rainy weather to walk to the site and survey the beach. Students worked in groups to sample seaweed along a line transect on Douglas beach and were able to identify and quantify different seaweeds. In the afternoon students headed back to school via a nice lunch at The Villa Café to analyse and discuss their results and present this in their Lab books. The visit was in conjunction Manx Wildlife Trust who have exceptional local knowledge and expertise of Manx Wildlife and Biodiversity. We would like to thank Dawn from Manx Wildlife Trust, all our students for their enthusiasm and Mr Thurley and Miss Salway for organising the trip.
