DOUGLAS SECONDARY SCHOOLS REMEMBER FALLEN DOUGLAS SOLDIERS

St Ninian’s High School art teacher Ms Miller and Ms Killen, art teacher from Ballakermeen High School, joined forces to produce 'Remembrance Art' at St Thomas’ Church in Douglas, for a Remembrance service today.

During art lessons, students from both Douglas secondary schools have made decorative labels with the names and addresses of a Douglas soldier who died in World War 2 and a description of how they lost their lives serving their country. Red poppies decorate these labels and they are attached to the back of the pews for the congregation to look at and read.

Lower school students designed remembrance helmets and Year 10 art and ceramic students from upper school made them out of mod-roc and transferred their designs on to them depicting silhouetted soldiers in battle scenes - some include dog soldiers and war horses. These brave animals have been remembered with a purple poppy.
