The chosen charity for Year 7 is the Manx Blind Welfare Society and we will be supporting our neighbours by running various fundraisers.
The Manx Blind Welfare Society are in the process of creating a sensory garden with various zones. The garden is designed to be used by visual and hearing impaired users and their assistance dogs as well as members of the public who have lost pets. They are also opening up the space for use by our school and we will be working with them around how we can help with the creating of the gardens and how we might use it in the future.
Year 7 visited MBWS during Tutorial sessions where students enjoyed a mini schedule from Chief Executive Ian Cooil including:
- A snapshot of the main purpose of the garden
- An overview of people using the garden and the benefits they will gai
- An explanation of the Paws4Thought area, the Freedom Run and the Sanctuary
Whilst there, our Year 7 students collected a stone from the ‘beach’ feature which they will now design and paint around the theme of ‘Animals and Nature’ before returning to place them back on the beach.
The students showed real interest and asked some great questions. Thank you to Ian and Kerry for their hospitality.
