This week the Sixth Form Debate Club were delighted to be joined by two members of the Green Party who spoke against the motion: "This house holds taking care of the environment is an individual’s responsibility” Andrew Langan-Newton made a very persuasive case for the role that governments and large corporations can play in taking action on climate change. He also put this into a Manx context in relation to plans to become carbon neutral on the Isle of Man. Whilst our students spoke for the motion and highlighted how powerful individual action can be in putting pressure on governments and corporations, and that each small action can have an impact.
Thank you to all those who came to listen to the arguments and to those contributed comments and questions. In the end the motion was lost.
