On Thursday March 1st, the English department and many students at our Lower School site celebrated World Book Day. There were a range of interesting and fun costumes to be seen around school on the day, including characters from the Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Trolls, Mario, Red Riding Hood and Where’s Wally.
On top of this, students had been submitting entries for different book themed competitions: Design a literary shoebox, Write a short story as a tweet and Design a book cover. All of the winners for these competitions were announced over lunchtime in the school library, along with our costume winners. We had loads of fantastic entries, making it very difficult for the English department to choose their winners, and the top three in each competition won a certificate and a prize.
First place winner in our 'Short Story as Tweet’ competition was Ryan Staunton in year 8 and first in the 'Design a Book Cover’ was Katy Shepphard in year 9. Our character costume winner was Lea Borucka in year 7 and taking first prize for the literary shoebox was a joint effort from year 8 girls, Abigail Taylor-Skillen and Emma Williams.
Well done to everyone who took part and made it a fun day for all to enjoy!
