A group of 10 Year 13 students travelled to Liverpool at the weekend to see a production of Othello presented by the highly acclaimed physical theatre company Frantic Assembly. The action of the play had been updated to the present day and most of the action took place in a seedy looking public bar with pool table, fruit machine and stained, threadbare carpet. It was a highly impressive piece of theatre which incorporated the pinpoint, precision and gymnastics of Frantic Assembly’s trademark style. Furthermore, Shakespeare’s language was delivered with such easy naturalism and in a variety of British regional accents that it made the verse sound renewed, fresh and vibrant. All this, together with highly creative design elements, has given our Drama students plenty of material to support them in their examination preparations.
