Well, who made the final? Yes! England have only gone and done it – Sunday here we come. In other news, we had our quiz winning team of Megan Haswell, Bree Cassidy and Sarah Harris who took home the crown of ‘SNHS Universities Quiz Team 2024’, a huge congratulations to all three which I believe, is almost on par with England.
Thursday, the wet weather set in again but undeterred, we managed to scramble over for our 7:30am breakfast meet, with many selecting the healthy option of waffles and croisants. We collected our packed lunches and departed for Sheffield at 8:45am prompt. This being the longest journey out, students settled into their seats and waited patiently for round 2 of the music quiz. After the success of Wednesday’s quiz, the quizmaster decided to up the game and throw a few curve balls in there; our eventual winners being Kirree Corkish and Paula Park who took home Thursday’s title with a winning score of 38 out of 42.
We arrived safely at Sheffield Hallam University at 11:10am, to be met by Ally and the Student Ambassador team. Students moved through the campus into one of their larger lecture theatres to listen to a talk on “the benefits of attaining a degree” and “why Sheffield?”. It gave our students the opportunity to ask staff and current students about accommodation, courses offered at SHU, entry requirements and the support on offer. The responses provided our students with a clear inodcation of what SHU is all about and the discussions continued into the campus tours. Our students had the chance to explore the campus in full, looking at the many facilities on offer. We have to thank Ally and the rest of the team for hosting again; it was another brilliant visit.
A short journey North, we arrived at The University of Sheffield within 20 mins; the close proximity of the two universities is staggering. We were met by two Student Ambassadors who split the group into two, one side straight onto a campus tour, looking at different faculties of the university and the other relaxing in the Student Union, before switching over. Such a shame we didn’t manage to hear from the School Liaison Team once again, but the campus tour did provide our students with a look at student life.
Next, it was what we’d all been waiting for! Meadow Hall, for our next shopping experience; being very similar to the Trafford Centre, students had a good amount of time to explore, to spend some money buying clothes and grabbing some food. It wasn’t long before we hopped back on the coaches for the travel back to Edge Hill. The coach travel provided a spot of entertainment in terms of musical karaoke as well as the students providing the teachers (and Darren the caoch driver) with a ranking of their songs. Ameilia Owen took top spot with 26 out of 40 with her song “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry!
Time flies fast when you’re enjoying yourself, and by the looks of it, we certainly have.
Our last day, Friday, Liverpool; can it get any better?
