On Tuesday 2nd July, A Level Biology students attended a local field trip to sample seaweed on the Port Jack end of Douglas Beach. This was part of their Practical Endorsement for their Biology A Level course. Students and staff enjoyed the surprise sunny weather for the walk down and enjoyed a nice early lunch in the Villa Arcade with items from the Villa Café lunch menu. The walk to the site continued and the students carried out their survey the beach thoroughly collecting lots of data. Students worked in groups to sample seaweed along a belt line transect on Douglas beach and were able to identify and quantify the abundance of different seaweed species. Following the data collection, students enjoyed an ice cream treat as the light rain came in for the walk back to school. In the following lessons, students analysed and discussed their results and presented this in their lab books.

We would like to thank all our A-Level Biology students for their enthusiasm and Miss Johnson and Miss Salway for organising the trip.
