After a successful 3-0 win for the Saints in week one of Senior Hockey, the girls were on the road again, this time on a windy coast road to Ramsey Grammar. Despite threats of storm Amy we received the great news that the fixture would still take place. The game started slowly, with the conditions proving tough to play in, which affected both St Ninian’s and Ramsey Grammar's ability to gain control of the match. After testing the goalkeeper early on with a high volume of shots from short corners, the deadlock was broken. Ela Blakemore showed excellent skill to drive through the heart of the Ramsey Grammar defence, when she laid off a pass to Eliane, who fired a snapshot at goal, catching the Ramsey Grammar goalkeeper off guard, putting the Saints 1-0 up. Halftime saw the girls 1-0 up, but understanding that the game was far from over. The Saints piled on the pressure in the second half, when the lead was doubled when Ela Blakemore guided the ball into the far corner with an excellent finish, giving breathing room for the girls with a 2-0 lead. The girls battled with great determination right up until the final whistle, winning a short corner as the full time whistle went. All 10 outfield players joined the attack for the final action in an attempt to seal the deal. Macey Crellin injected the corner out to the dangerous Ela Blakemore, who returned the ball back to Macey on the post, when she played a perfectly timed square pass to Emma Worsfold at the back post to tap in to cement back to back 3-0 wins for the Saints. Every single one of the girls in red put in a professional performance, building on the success of the previous win. The girls shook hands, with each team nominating a player of the match for the opposition team. Ramsey Grammar awarded to Macey Crellin, who was brilliant throughout the game, always showing composure and quality in every action. Special mention to Anna Wilson, who played a fantastic match, carrying the ball and driving the ball forward dangerously. 2 wins from 2 so far, the Senior Girls are demonstrating the correct attitude and quality to be considered as serious contenders for the Senior Shield. Let’s go Saints!
