The Senior girls 3rd fixture was a test, away at Castle Rushen. The girls started the game very strong, with wingers Ella Edwards and Lara Smith driving into the heart of the Castle Rushen defence. The Saints broke the deadlock when Macey Crellin went on an amazing run, before taking the ball around the goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net. Castle Rushen responded well, but the strength of Willow Heaton and Aoife Dowling-Sharkey prevented any real opportunities. The Saints went into half-time 1-0 up, with the girls pleased with the performance so far. The second half began and the girls demonstrated the best hockey they have played this season. Patience at the back with Emma Worsfold and Ela Blakemore, denied Castle Rushen any chance to have possession in the second half. The girls have progressed a lot in the 3 weeks, showing great composure to pick the right pass and play as a team. The Saints doubled their lead with a short corner, where Ela Blakemore and Macey Crellin played an excellent one-two, before Ela slotted past the keeper to put the Saints 2-0 up. The girls controlled possession fantastically and in the final minute of the game, Ela Blakemore went on a superb solo run, before firing a vicious shot into the bottom corner to put St. Ninian's 3-0 up. The full time whistle was blown with the girls winning by three goals to nil for the third consecutive week, with goalkeeper Poppy Gerrard making some great saves to keep the clean sheet. Player of the match as voted for by the opposition, was Lara Smith whose pace caused problems once again. Special mention to Willow Heaton who won a countess amount of tackles and was solid at the back. Let’s go Saints!
