The Child First Policy was received by Tynwald on Tuesday (21 October), placing young people at the heart of government decision-making.
Children and young people who helped to shape the policy were present in Tynwald and students from St. Ninian's were well represented in this group. The policy reflects the government’s commitment to ensure its decisions will prioritise the best interests of young people.
The Child First Policy is designed to protect and promote the rights of all children, including the Island’s most vulnerable children, those in care, and those with complex needs or disabilities.
The plan establishes a cross-government framework to put children at the centre of policy-making, service delivery, and community life. Training in children’s rights, and how to incorporate them into making decisions and policy, is being provided to Ministers and public service staff.
