The Saints reached the Senior Hockey Final for the 3rd consecutive season - with the opponents being Castle Rushen for the third year in a row. After beating Castle Rushen in the league fixtures, the girls were confident and feeling optimistic for the Final. The game started with Castle Rushen on the front, putting SNHS under significant pressure. Poppy Gerrard made some very good stops in goal, keeping the game at 0-0. Centre backs Emma Worsfold and Morgan Braidwood, who returned from injury for the Final, made vital blocks and tackles in the opening minutes. The deadlock was broken with a breakaway move, with Lula-Belle Findlay holding up strongly, laying the ball off to Ela Blakemore who played the ball to Lara Smith, who continued her great goalscoring form slotting past the keeper, sending the SNHS fans and players into celebration! CRHS responded almost instantly, where the ball dropped in the D and the Castle Rushen forward fired home. The score was 1-1 at the break, with plenty to play for in the second half. Throughout the second half, the game was tight, with strong defending from both sides preventing any clear cut chances. However, with 5 mins left on the clock, the Saints struck again. Macey Crellin showed excellent attacking play to win a short corner from taking on three CRHS players. Emma Worsfold injected to Ela Blakemore, who played a one two with Macey Crellin, before finding Lara Smith unmarked at the back post ready to tap the ball home. The girls held the ball for the final minutes with great composure, which resulted in the final whistle blowing and the game finishing St. Ninian's 2-1 Castle Rushen. The Senior girls, after 2 years of heartbreak in the Final against the southern side, got their revenge with a fantastic win. The umpires voted Morgan Braidwood player of the match with a brilliant performance upon returning from injury. The girls played a fantastic season from the first game and were well deserved Senior Hockey Champions 2025. Mr Middleton and Miss Murphy would like to congratulate the girls for all their hard work and determination to bring the shield home, you have done yourself, the teachers and the school extremely proud. Let’s go Saints!
