From Saturday 21st to Wednesday 25th March, 22 Sixth Form Geographers went on the biannual trip to Iceland. Some great locations were studied including Gulfoss waterfall, Geysir Geothermal pPark, Secret Lagoon Pools. The group also went around the capital city of Reykjavik with an evening swim at the national swimming pool with snow landing on our hair.
The final day we visited Grindavik, which was off limits 2 years ago due to an erupting volcano. It was amazing to see the work the Icelanders had carried out to prevent the town and the tourist attraction of Blue Lagoon from succumbing to the lava. The final part was a visit down ancient lava tunnels which were a remanent from an eruption 5,000 years ago.
The group stayed in apartments in central Reykjavik and new domestic skills were learnt by some as the group were self catering.
An amazing experience for all.
