St Ninian’s Year 7 rugby players got their school sporting careers off to a fantastic start on Wednesday, with both teams recording excellent wins against Ramsey Grammar School.
There were strong performances across the pitch, which was particularly impressive considering that many of the boys are brand new to rugby. Their commitment at training is already beginning to show, with some excellent attacking rugby, strong support play and determined defence.
For the A team, J. Arthur-Faragher produced some powerful ball carries, regularly getting St Ninian’s on the front foot, while J. Baglow and G. Wagstaff set the tone defensively with some courageous tackling. In the B team, S. McAllister and B. Lane were excellent, alongside a number of boys who made a real impact in their first competitive rugby match.
Nearly 40 Year 7 boys have been attending training each week, which provides a brilliant foundation to build on. If that enthusiasm and commitment continues, there is plenty to look forward to over the rest of the season.
