On Thursday 20th September, 10 girls from Year 8 took part in the all-island Poetry Slam Final as part of the Manx Literary Festival. The girls performed very well and, although they did not get a prize this time, they were a credit to the school.
The Poetry Slam Final required our teams to create poem on a powerful theme such as People of the Move, Making a Difference or Child Labour. They then had to commit the poem to memory, add actions and demonstrate passion about their chosen topic. A difficult task!
Our three teams included Tilly Turpin, Carla Teece, Evie Skillicorn and Lauren Haxby who performed a poem called ‘Climate Change’. Another team included Juliana Kopacz, Poppy Knox, Grace Gerrard and Tessie Clynes whose poem was titled ‘The Story of a Refugee’. Finally, Sophia Gough and Francesca Jones performed a powerful poem titled ‘Make a difference’.
