Politics is one of the four subjects offered within the Social Science Department. It is a dynamic subject area that provides students with a contemporary political education and a detailed understanding of the political world here on the Isle of Man, in the UK and globally.

Our aim is for students to see the scope and impact of politics, not just the work that is done in Tynwald, Westminster or the White House, but how political decisions large and small impact on our lives every single day. An education in politics enables students to see the importance of understanding how decisions are reached, who is making the decisions and their likely impact. Politics is the study of this decision making process and institutions.

In A Level politics we aim to get to the truth behind the headlines and encourage students to think critically about those who wield power and also those that threaten this power.

Studying politics requires looking at the past, present and future with a critical eye; to be able to assess different political positions and ideologies.

Students are encouraged to engage with the political world around them, be up-to-date with current affairs and to take an interest in the wider global picture by extended reading and research.

A Level Politics is a highly regarded academic subject which can be studied at degree level.

Studying Politics will open up a wide variety of careers such as:
