The Languages Department are currently away in Málaga with 28 St. Ninian’s Lower and Upper School students. After arriving late Saturday, students met their friendly host families and their first day consisted of a trip to La Alhambra in Granada. Initially built as a small fortress in the 9th century, it was extended upon and used as a royal palace by the beginning of the 14th century. It continued to be used after the 1492 Reconquista as a Royal Court
The excursion provided a wonderful insight through the medium of Spanish into science, architecture, hydrology and religious symbolisms.
Monday consisted of three hours of Spanish tuition and an excursion to La Alcazaba, the palace fortress of Málaga’s once governing Muslims, built in the 11th century. A steep walk but SNHS students and staff managed to rock the Alcazaba! Well worth it as views from the Gibraltar were stunning.
