Our new A level in Fashion and Textiles is a very exciting option. We have an exceptionally well equipped specialist room which enables our students to produce wonderfully creative, innovative designs and prototypes for their non-exam assessment.

Students are able to choose their own design brief and research what best reflects their ideas, giving them the freedom to make the work individual to them.

There are three elements to the N.E.A: the prototypes, a sketch book and a formal portfolio. This is marked as 50% of the course. The remaining 50% is an exam; the knowledge for the exam is covered while doing practical work, looking at fibres and fabric, exploring the global textiles industry and learning about designers.

This is an exciting course for anyone with a creative flare and an interest in fashion. There are clear pathways for students to follow and a number of our students have gone on to study Fashion and Costume Design courses at university.

The course is co-ordinated by Mrs Gillian Newey, who after 20 years teaching Art, is enjoying a new love for Textiles, Design and Technology.

She said, 'Every day the students I see inspire me, surprise me and make me see the world of fashion in a different way. I love to encourage and facilitate young people who will be our designers, fashion buyers and trend setters of the future! “
