Last Friday the Year 9 Rugby team played away at Ramsey hoping to book their spot in the final against Castle Rushen. The Saints seemed tired in the opening moments but scored first through Jacob Dawkins who dived between two Ramsey players to get the ball down, after great work at the breakdown from his team-mates. Soon after, the Saints made it two. Great work from James Longden fending off three oncoming Ramsey players to score. 10-0 up soon became 14-10 down due to two quick fire Ramsey tries which were well converted. Half-time came and the boys were reminded to remain composed and continue to be aggressive both when on the ball as well as without it. Into the second half and Ramsey extended their lead to 19-10 with another try. Bobby Davenport showed great composure from a penalty to produce a fantastic kick out to touch which changed the game. From the subsequent line out James Longden burst through a pack of Ramsey players once more to score in the left corner. With no conversions scored so far, Maximus Robinson stepped up from a tight angle, he struck the ball effortlessly through the centre of the posts to reduce the deficit to 2 points. 2 minutes from time and Jacob Dawkins ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Another conversion well taken! The boys held on for the final couple of plays booking their spot in the final winning 24-19! Special mention to Ivan Stupak, Oscar Ye, and Zach Wade who made impressive debuts in the first team with players absent due to injuries!
The final takes place this Friday at Douglas Rugby Club, 14:30 kick off, support appreciated!
