St. Ninian’s' Year 8 girls arrived at this year’s Island Schools Football Tournament full of energy, determination and excitement and their performances over both weeks certainly lived up to expectations.
A Team – Week One
The opening week saw the A team take to the pitch, facing every island school in a series of competitive matches. From the very first whistle, the girls showed outstanding teamwork, discipline and resilience, finishing the tournament without conceding a single goal.
Ava demonstrated superb control and strength on the ball, driving the team forward with confidence. At the back, Rose was a dependable presence, producing crucial tackles and reading the game brilliantly to help maintain the Saints’ flawless defensive record. As the tournament progressed, Amelia really grew into the competition, finding her rhythm and confidence. She used her pace and close control to break through defensive lines and create chances. Her efforts paid off as she scored a couple of vital goals, helping secure key results for the team. Every player contributed wholeheartedly in each match, working tirelessly for one another and showing brilliant sportsmanship throughout. Their efforts were justly rewarded as they finished the tournament proudly wearing gold medals around their necks.
B Team – Week Two
The second week saw the B team step into the spotlight, heading out full of enthusiasm to face the island schools. They quickly settled into their matches, showing excellent teamwork and communication from the outset. Maddison stood out with strong tackles and intelligent play, helping to transition the ball into dangerous attacking areas. Lilly worked hard to position herself well around the goal, ready to capitalise on opportunities, especially following Hollie’s powerful clearances from the defensive half. Darcie also impressed, keeping a calm and composed presence in midfield, allowing the team to move the ball with confidence and control. Unfortunately, heavy rain caused the pitch to become unplayable, forcing the matches to end early. Nonetheless, the girls displayed great spirit, effort and togetherness in the time they had on the field.

Both squads represented St Ninian’s brilliantly across the tournament, showing skill, determination and fantastic team spirit. All the girls should be incredibly proud of their performances.
