The Year 10 girls played their first hockey fixture of the season and, despite a 7–2 defeat, produced a performance that deserved far more than the final scoreline suggested.
From the start, the girls showed excellent teamwork and some fantastic linking play, moving the ball well and creating a number of opportunities. They worked hard for each other throughout the game and demonstrated plenty of determination and commitment.
St Ninian’s scored two excellent goals, with Dulcie Hunter finding the back of the net with a superb finish. The second came with the final play of the game, as Grace Carr converted a short corner to cap off a positive performance.
A special mention goes to Blossom Winrow, who stepped in as goalkeeper and produced a fantastic display, making numerous outstanding saves throughout the game and keeping the team in the contest.
Player of the Match: Lylah Cretney, who was excellent throughout and fully deserved the award.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The girls worked brilliantly as a team, showed great commitment and were a real pleasure to coach. With this attitude and work ethic, there is plenty to look forward to as the season progresses.
Well done, girls!
